Annual Supplier Golf Day 2014
Thursday 4th September saw the return of the Gould Annual Supplier Golf day at Leatherhead Golf Club. A chance for Gould Publication Papers to invite all of its very valued suppliers along for an informal meal, several drinks and of course a few holes of golf in the autumn sunshine.
Always a fun and highly regarded event that has built year on year into a social gathering not to be missed.
The event began Wednesday evening where most suppliers and the Gould players stayed at the Woodlands Park Hotel. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic meal followed by a speech made by Dominic Blakey, Sales Director at Gould.
Needless to say that the meal was accompanied by drinks both before and after the food, which were greatly enjoyed by all.
Tee off With a Coffee and Roll
Thursday morning bright and breezy, around 7.30-8am, our twenty-seven golfers were raring to go at the first tee. I say the twenty-seven golfers, we were nearly twenty-five as a couple of people including the organiser were nearly late for the start!
A breakfast of bacon rolls and strong coffee set everyone up for the day as we moved onto the 18-hole course to get the competition underway.
The Magnificent Seven Teams
The golfers, a mix of Gould staff and suppliers, were divided into seven teams, all competing both individually and for group prizes:
|8:15||Team 1|| |
|8.25||Team 2|| |
|8.35||Team 3|| |
|8.45||Team 4|| |
|8.55||Team 5|| |
|9.05||Team 6|| |
|9.15||Team 7|| |
And so off onto the course they went and returned around four hours later after lots of fun and some great competitive banter. One team managed rather cleverly to lose the yellow ball on the first hole, find it again and then lose it again, still on the first hole!
There were some short drives, long drives, balls shooting through the trees and some excellent putts as well. As usual we had brilliant Autumn weather; slightly sunny and warm but nice and calm; a perfect day for a morning of golf.

In the Clubhouse
Then, as Stephen O’Brien, our organiser collected the scorecards and began to tally up the points, everyone enjoyed a quick refreshing drink before we moved into the clubhouse for a buffet lunch and the all important prize-giving.
It was a closely fought competition with four players achieving the same overall score for third place, which had to then be decided on count back.
Rather embarrassingly for Gould, the top three individual places went to Gould team members, with Matt Pike claiming overall winner for the second year in a row with a score of 36 points and Tom O’Sullivan second with 33 points.
Team 6 won the yellow ball team competition and other prizes included nearest the pin, longest and shortest drive and of course the booby prize which this year went to Ashley Miller.
Overall Individual Winners
Matt Pike - 36pts
Tom O'Sullivan - 33pts
Nick Henry - 32pts (21pts on count back)
|Yellow Ball Team Competition||Andrew Pearse, Adrian Lillywhite, Chris Godfrey & Kevin Dyer - 34pts|

Looking Forward to 2015
Prizes were handed out, accompanied by speeches from both Darren Wheeler, Gould Director and Stephen O’Brien, our organiser of the event, thanking everyone for attending for this eighth year in a row and congratulating all the competitors and winners. Stephen commented:
“I certainly thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of days and from comments received, it sounds like everyone else did as well… so a big thanks to everyone for making it such a good, very enjoyable event. I’m already looking forward to next year!”
And just one day later we were really pleased to receive such good feedback and comments from attendees about just how enjoyable the whole event was:
“It was a truly entertaining and enjoyable event, both hotel and golf venues were excellent. It was clear to see a lot of preparation and attention to detail throughout the whole experience and I felt privileged to be in attendance at this unique occasion. The camaraderie is refreshing to see within ‘Team Gould’!
I shall be preening the golf swing whilst collecting lousy scorecards like yesterday to swell the handicap in an attempt to prise some prizes from the Gould International grasp on the competitions another year perhaps! Watch out Tom I might just nick the shortest drive on the 1st… “ Simon Morris, Palm Paper.
We are already really looking forward to next year, so for all of you paper suppliers and Gould employees, keep the first Thursday of September in 2015 free in your diary for the next golfing extravaganza (Gould-style of course).
